Mother's Day

We had such a lovely Mother's Day today. I had a lie in and got up to a beautiful breakfast and gifts.

Then we pottered at home and Freddie and Mia were keen to try painting with feathers which led us to talking about feathers being used as the first pens!

Garden fun and snails

We were so disappointed to find our frog pawn had died this morning. It had sunk to the bottom and had all
gone all white. When we researched why this had happened we silvered we should have been doing some
water changes. We have luckily been offered a second attempt so will give it another go.

The kids are loving making mud pies in our garden kitchen!

Fred found some snails and decided he would like to keep some again.
Me and Mia prepared our frog pond....
Making rain!

Freddie asked lots of questions about snails so we took some time researching snails on the Internet.
We looked at the life cycle of the snail and found out all about how they mate and lay their eggs.
Fred loved telling dad all about what he had learnt!
Good link all about snails.....

Wonderful craft group with Mother's Day activity

Today we went to our friends house for an afternoon of crafts. There was a lovely big group of us and the children decorated clay flower pots with paint and beads and made Mother's Day cards. My two were so into the activities, particularly Fred who was so focused! He really loves craft activities.

Our friends dad is a musician and he came in and played lovely music for the children to dance too.

We were very kindly given an electric guitar by our lovely friends so we had an evening of music at home too. Fred is very keen to learn to play the guitar and has started watch you tube guitar lessons for children!

More Science experiments! This time cleaning coins!

The kids did a great experiment today, putting coins into different liquids, one into water, one into lemon juice and one into vinegar.

Squeezing a lemon....
Fine motor skill practice -picking up coins with tweezers...
Using a pipette to put vinegar into test tube with coin in...
We wrote out our experiments....used a clock to time how long we left coins in....

Results...(need to upload pic!)

We talked a lot about Acid, how the acid in the lemon and vinegar has corroded the dirt away leaving shiny coins! We spoke about what had acid in and what this felt like on our skin! Kids came up with great ideas of what had acid in...."mummy, wee wee stings my legs, does it have acid in?" "Mummy when we pick apples from our tree to early they taste sour...do apples have acid in?"

Then hours of making and playing rockets! This involved a lot of Internet research about space...we found out it takes 300 days to travel to Mars and 4years to travel to Saturn!!!!!

Then we took Mia to her first dance lesson! She loved it!

Fun with friends

Busy children!
Mia reading to G! So cute, they did this for ages!
Boys playing Guess Who
Games outside involving chalk and a ball...
Cooking with the girls....

And a bump shot! 18 weeks xxxx

Insect science experiments

Today we got our Science kit out.... Mia picked lots of flowers and studied them through the magnify glass...

Freddie became very attached to the goggles and wore them most of the day!
We went looking for bugs in the garden....it was actually quite hard to find many. We found a spider, snails, a worm and a slug. We popped the bugs in test tubes to take inside and study.
Inside we looked closely at them through the magnify glass and drew what we saw. We decided to record what we found in March and do the same next month and see if there are different insects out and about....

Fred drawing a slug...
Mia studying a snail...
Mia then spent a good hour making soup, chocolate puddings and mud potions in her outside kitchen!
