Football and fires!

Today we spent a lot of time in the garden. We played football. We had competitions where one of us was in goal and the other two playing football and trying to get to ten goals first! It was lots of fun and also a good opportunity to slip some sneaky maths practice in! I kept asking questions such as "ok, I have 3 goals and Mia has 6 how many do I need to get until I am equal with her?" Worked really well, lots of maths was done!

Then we spent time clearing the garden up. We found a little frog which we watched for a bit and we attempted a fire but it didn't take well as the wood was so damp.
Inside Fred was keen to read to me and Mia his Biff, Chip And Kipper books again and we played a new game called "kids charades" where the children had to act out words which were illustrated on cards. Was fun. We are also reading The Cat in The Hat books which we are loving, and we snuggled on the sofa reading a few of them too. We also read some Nativity books and Mia made us laugh as she can't remember the name Jesus and instead says baby grievious!!!!!

Freddie is beginning to read!

Am so excited to see Freddie reading the Biff, Chip and Kipper books! We read together the level 2 book again today ( the one he needed help with yesterday) and to my amazement he sounded out the words and read the whole thing! Then we read a new level one book and he pretty much read all of that! It's like a switch has just turned on!
They also grasped the concept of adding and subtracting today...it all started with us working out ages...when Mia is this age how old will Fred be ( add 2), Fred can pretty much add 2 to any number ( motivated by the excitement of being 2 years older than Mia each time!). Mia can do it too. Then we did the same with adding 1 using Mia and Freddie's friend Sophie who is 1 year older than Mia...so we did when Mia is 17 how old will Sophie be? They totally got it! They then wanted to do adding and subtracting in their workbooks so we did a bit of that...
We used the "5 little ducks went swimming one day" song to learn subtracting 1. They enjoyed that although Fred got a bit upset about the mummy duck loosing her babies so we had to add a "they are playing hide and seek" spin to it!!!!
To carry on with the maths theme the children played with wooden geometric shapes, making their own patterns and shapes.
We have also been busy making some Christmas presents for people but can't give you more details/pictures in case they read!

This morning the sun was shining beautifully so we went to a remote park ( so as not to spread hand foot and mouth- although Mia is symptom free now) and the kids had a fantastic time. They rolled down hills, played hide and seek and played on a giant slide. I brought along a little picnic which we ate there too in the sun. The kids played an in depth game rescuing their toys together! Love watching them play together!

The empty park!

They went down the slide countless times holding hands lost in a game of rescuing their toys!

Painting, reading and shopping!

We are making the most of our time in quarantine! It's quite useful in that I am managing to get a bit sorted for Christmas.

The kids made little Christmas trees today....

We added to Freddie's homemade starwars collection....oh my goodness he is loving this, he would do this all day!
Mia is enjoying painting, this is mine and her creation!

We took a stroll to a new charity shop which has opened on our road and Fred bought these sharks, each for 20p!

We have been to the park, they love playing a pirate game on this swing!

We got some biff, chip and kipper books out of the library when we last went and Fred can now read this  book independently, sounding out the words....v exciting! We then read a book from the next level up which Fred struggled with but I was so happy to see him recognise and read the words which were in the previous book.

An interesting quote.....
