Very stormy weather, strong winds and rain so anther day at home! This morning we started with a science experiment.
The kids first drew round plates to make a circle...
Then we drew a spiral inside the circle and cut it out...
I planned to give it a Christmassy edge by making angel wings at the top of the spiral and an angels head which we started to do but both children lost interest! Mia went off and played a maths game on the I pad and Fred was clearly not that engaged. So I quickly adapted the theme and we made it into a space ship and drew Yoda driving it. Bam Fred was back engaged and excited! He drew fire coming out of the spaceship on the spiral....
We then held our spiral Yoda space ship in the air and noticed how it stayed still, then we moved it so it was hanging over warm air created by candles...whoosh it started spinning!
We spoke about how hot air rises and that's how hot air balloons fly...we talked about how the hot air rising makes our spiral spin!
Mia had a go to making a Tinkerbell Spiral and a Periwinkle Spiral.
Then there was lots of playing with her fairies....
We did some phonics workbooks...
We played a phonics game on a board with a dice and Star Wars counters! Again definitely increased Freddie's engagement level!
I also cut out some cardboard cake shapes for Mia to colour in and make into food for her picnic...
