Practicing adding with the abacus and a stacking cup game and salt dough decorations

Yesterday we came home from a really lovely weekend in London. The second we got home I zoomed off to work for the evening so when we woke up this morning there was a lot of sorting and un-packing and washing to do! I had been to Ikea in London to buy some storage for all our craft supplies so was also keen to sort that out. So this morning I ran around trying to get organised whilst the kids played, did lego, watched T.V and did some drawing which they decorated with the stickers given by Nanna.
(love having 2 tuff spots now....1 was just not enough!)

After lunch we got down to business! A friend gave us this wonderful idea. We wrote numbers 1 - 5 onto cups and stacked them, made balls out of tissue paper and sellotape and played an adding game. We took turns to throw the ball at the stacked cups and then we added up the numbers on the fallen cups using the abacus.
Freddie practiced writing numbers by recording our scores. The abacus was fantastic for helping the kids grasp the idea of adding.

To encourage the kids to work together they were on the same team competing against mummy! It all got very competitive!
Then we made some salt dough, put food colouring and glitter in it to make some christmas decorations. We are going to make christmas gifts this year which the kids are so excited about.
In the oven...tomorrow we will paint them xxx
