The kids were engrossed and disappointed when we had to stop for lunch and to get ready to go to meet our friends! This afternoon we met with 5 other home ed families with children ranging from 5 to 5 weeks! Freddie had great fun playing with D and a new friend R. Mia had a more unsettled time. She is going through a tricky stage socially. Before she always appeared confident socially, getting involved in playing with other children quickly. Currently she seems to have a lot of anxiety, I think it's because she is suddenly aware of the dynamics in relationships. When girls approach her to play at the moment she pouts and puts her hand on her hip and says " I am not your best friend". She tells me she does this because she feels scared. She can't say what she is scared of. I think she just feels unsure of what to do so she acts defensively! Then she is so upset because the girls don't play with her. She is full of fire at the moment, wanting to always be first, competing against everyone! Bless her, little thing, she needs lots of love, gentleness and nurturing! It's interesting to watch her, my response to anxiety is to retreat, I go shy and quiet yet I have come to see that Mia s defence mechanism is to become a bit aggressive and defensive when she feels anxious.

This evening we had great fun playing snakes and ladders..
