Some people say home educating doesn't allow a child to toughen up in preparation for the world...someone has even said to me that experiencing bullying at school prepares one for the workplace where bullying is rife??!!! The patients I work with all experienced cruelty of some sort in childhood - I am yet to see how this cruelty helped prepare them for adulthood. In fact it seems to have done the opposite. If we knew there was going to be a famine in the future we wouldn't starve our children in preparation would we?!!!!!
I have been so horrified when people have said to me that I should send Freddie to nursery to " toughen him up" why would I want to toughen him up? You know the answer I was given to that question? He needs to toughen up so he will survive at school....hmmmmmm I think I will pass on that thanks!
Totally agree!! I always get 'you can't protect them forever' and 'your sheltering them from life' I like to think I'm educating my children to have ethics and morals to make the right choices and become rounded individuals and not pressured and bulliedinto changing who they are at 5 years old on a school playing field
