Sight words and fun at friends house

We started our day with a juice. The kids love making the juice more than drinking it I think!
Then we slowly got ready, TV was on, children half watching, half playing, me desperately trying to restore order to our messy house! I will admit I find it hard to keep on top of the washing and house work....plus our dishwasher has broken so the washing up seems never ending!
I put on a sight words rock and learn DVD, it is quite American but the kids seem to love it! It teaches sight words to catchy songs and generally has the children up dancing and singing! We got out our lolly pop sticks with sight words written on them and tried to find the right words to match the songs. We had great fun doing this!
As new words came up we quickly wrote them on new lolly pop sticks, the children enjoyed writing on the sticks too.
Freddie is definitely getting more confident with his writing now, he was very resistant to writing a short while back but now he is keen to try and not as worried about making mistakes now. Lovely to watch his confidence grow.
After this we snuggled for stories, each taking turns to choose books. Mia was finding it hard to listen to Freddie's choice of book ( dinosaur fact books) and tried to disrupt it by shouting loudly so Fred could nt hear and kicking the book with her feet... Tricky! I think maybe Mia has found it a little difficult recently as there has been more emphasis placed on Freddie related activities which are often a bit too old for her to really engage in. So with this in mind, we made a snow world on the tuff spot for her to play with her snow fairy in, all was going well until we realised we had left the fairies at our friends house! Oh no! But Mia quickly changed her focus and started an imaginary game with straws, she was dividing the colours up and placing them in " countries" on the tough spot snow scene! The green straws were Sweden, the pink South America and blue Australia!
This then led to cutting up straws and making "spaghetti"
Fred was keen to join in...
Freddie then remembered his love of cutting and continued to cut anything possible.... This even distracted him from his lunch!

Then off for a play date....
We had a lovely afternoon, our friends live in a rural setting, with chickens, dogs, huge veggie patch, trampoline and a fire pit!

A spot of gardening was done...

We were invited to stay for dinner, so we made a fire in the fire pit and all sat round eating a yummy dinner. The kids ( especially boys) loved throwing wood on the fire.

I drove two sleepy children home at 8 to see daddy.  yey it is Friday....swimming with daddy tomorrow, very exciting xxx
